Strategy

The art promo design needed to reference Studio Cult’s brand language: “inspired by crumbs of shared memories.” This includes playing off of the Y2K aesthetics found in the company’s product lineup.

The design should be:

1) Promotional to Studio Cult’s branding by incorporating the company logo (shown below) in a creative way.

2) Nostalgic; rooted with a commonplace object with shared memories.

Final Design

The final design was drafted in Solidworks using dimensions from caliper measured of a VHS tape 📼. The Studio Cult smiley face branding was incorporated on the red tape reels as etchings.

Scrap Chemcast Cast Transparent Colored Acrylic (dark blue, and dark red) from Tap Plastics was used for the individual slides.

Each layer was cut (and etched) on a Glowforge laser cutter.

The entire assembly was press-fit together using acrylic wedge shims.

The final design was well received and was featured by the Studio Cult as a promo for their upcoming 2021 lineup.
